Where a Lot of Tinley Park’s Mornings Start

If you want to find dental implants in Tinley Park without leaving your own block, the 80th Avenue corridor is a short list. The Metra station sits at 18001 S 80th Ave. McGonigle Dental sits at 17519. In between is a stretch of Tinley Park that thousands of people drive twice a day without thinking about it.

The station is on the Rock Island District, 25.1 miles out from LaSalle Street Station, with 48 trains on a weekday and parking on both sides of the tracks including the Timber Road lot on the south side. It is one of the busiest suburban stops in the Metra system.

None of that has anything to do with dentistry. It has everything to do with why the same families have been walking into this building for decades: it is on the road they were already on.

Then and Now

What Has Changed Since Your Last Tooth Repair

If it has been a decade or two since you last dealt with a failing tooth, the options have moved. This is the short version of what is different.

The Old Standard

A bridge meant grinding down two healthy neighbors to anchor a false tooth between them. A partial denture meant something that came out at night and got relined as the ridge underneath changed. Planning ran off a flat X-ray.

What We Do Now

An implant replaces the root itself, so the teeth on either side are left alone. The site is mapped in three dimensions on a CBCT scan before anything is placed, and impressions are taken with a digital scanner instead of a putty tray.

What Gets Placed Here

One Tooth or a Full Arch, Handled in This Building

Not every case is the same size. Four things get asked about most, and all four are done here rather than referred across town.

Single Tooth

One post, one crown, neighbors untouched. See single tooth dental implants.

Several in a Row

Two posts can carry a span of teeth. See implant supported bridges.

A Full Arch

Four posts carrying a fixed arch, placed in one surgical visit. See All-on-4 implants.

Not Enough Bone

Rebuild the site first, then place. See bone grafting.

The Building

The One You Have Driven Past a Thousand Times

Six dentists work out of this office, along with the hygienists and assistants most of our patients know by name. Fifteen year patient relationships are common here, and they are the reason an implant consult usually starts with your own chart rather than a pitch.

Common Questions

Implants Near 80th Avenue Station: FAQ

What neighbors ask before booking the consult.

How close is McGonigle Dental to the 80th Avenue Metra station?

About half a mile north on the same street. The station is at 18001 S 80th Ave. and the practice is at 17519 80th Ave., both in Tinley Park. If you park at the station on a weekday you are already on our block.

Can I schedule around the Rock Island District train schedule?

Yes, and most commuters do. The office opens at 7 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and stays open until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, which brackets the inbound and outbound rush on the Rock Island line.

Does McGonigle Dental place implants in house or refer them out?

In house. Six dentists practice in this building, and the CBCT scan, the bone graft if one is needed, the placement, and the final crown are all done here. You are not sent to a surgeon across town between steps.

How long has the practice been on 80th Avenue?

Since 1974. A large share of the schedule is patients who have been coming for fifteen years or more, which is why implant conversations here usually start with your own history rather than a sales pitch.

Am I too old for a dental implant?

There is no upper age cutoff. What matters is the bone available at the site and your general health, both of which we check with a CBCT scan at the consult. Keeping your own teeth for a long time is usually a good sign for implant candidacy, not a bad one.

What happens if the scan shows I do not have enough bone?

That is common where a tooth has been missing for years, and it does not end the conversation. Bone grafting rebuilds the site so an implant can be placed later, and we do that procedure here rather than referring it out. The American Dental Association covers the general candidacy questions worth reading first.
